How to Record Calls and Set up Call Recording?

Acrobits Softphone and Groundwire can record calls but be mindful of local laws before using this feature. You can manage other controls like format, automatic recording, deletion periods, audio alerts, and transfer options within Preferences.

Android Call Recording Settings

You may configure additional features for the call recording in Preferences. For Android devices, select Android Settings icon > Settings > Preferences > Call Recording. The settings are as follows:

  • Show call recording button - Enable (default) or disable the Record button on the active call screen.
  • Record All Calls - Records all calls automatically without using the record button.
  • Split participant channels - Enable or disable (default) separate audio tracks for every participant in the call.
Note: Enabling this increases your storage usage. This feature only creates separate audio tracks within a single file, not individual files. You need to use your own sound editing software if you want to separate the tracks.

  • Recording format - Set the recording format. The default setting is WAV µ-law (8 kHz).

  • Automatically delete recordings - Set a duration to keep the recordings in the application, so that old ones are deleted according to the schedule and do not take up storage space in the device. The default setting is Keep forever.

  • Warning Beep - Enable (default) or disable.

Be aware that many local, state, or national governments impose laws and regulations on recording calls. It is your responsibility, not Acrobits', to be aware of and comply with the laws that apply to you.

  • Upload URL field - Set an upload URL that includes the required parameters of the POST request to upload the recording.

The Recording storage is set as External by default. The recordings are saved in the WAV format by default on the device memory or SD card.

Go to Files > Audio > recordings on your device. The file path typically follows this format: /storage/emulated/0/Music/<app name>/rec_<SIP account name>_<caller name>_<username>@xxxxxxxxx.wav (where xxxxxxxxx represents a string of letters and numbers).

Note

Transfer these files to your host computer or your backup drive if needed.

  • You can download recordings through Web Access.
Web Access has no restrictions regarding the size of the file you can download. Go to faq.acrobits.net/web-access for more information.
  • Use iTunes file sharing to transfer multiple recorded calls to another device or storage location as this is the fastest way when you record many calls. Go to support.apple.com/kb/HT4094 for more information.
